The Challenge
While dissecting the inefficiencies in the existing system, I identified a crucial problem — missing icons and inconsistent structures. Designers were investing considerable amount of time in creating icons in slightly different styles.
Simultaneously, I identified an opportunity for collaboration with teams across the organization that shared a need for multiple new icons.
Guidelines and Collaboration
To address the identified challenges, I drafted comprehensive guidelines for icon creation, laying the foundation for a standardized and efficient process.
I based the design decisions on existing icons, finding common ground between them, as well as from the original adidas logo which has unique angles and is universally recognized.
I collaborated with a freelancer to execute the redrawn icons to expedite the process and get the updated library ready to meet project deadlines.
The Result
We redraw around 260 icons, for different teams and use cases and in different variations which we calculated to save around 50 hours saved per month by designers being able find and use icons from the library.
